Cigarettes.

Just a quick question to all my smokers out there.
Who smokes?/Who doesn't?
What brand/type of cigarette do you smoke?
How long have you smoked?
Any side effects that you've noticed so far?
How did you get started smoking?
What's your favorite brand/type of cigarette?
Have you tried quitting/how long did it take to quit?
Menthol or Regular?
OR:
Why don't you smoke?
Why did you quit?

I'm just curious about it. As of right now, I don't smoke. My husband smokes Camel Wides. I don't have anything against it. I just want to get my facts straight before I start it, or don't start the "nasty habit." I've smoked casually before. I've also smoked hookah, but that's about it. Just give me your opinions! I'm curious!

**CIGARETTES ONLY PEOPLE!! I'M VERY ANTI-DRUG, SO PLEASE DON'T TALK TO ME ABOUT HOW MUCH POT YOU SMOKE.

  1. Girl don't smoke.

You will smell, you will increase your risk for cancer, and gum disease, lung disease, cardiac disease. It's the worst thing you could possibly do. Emphysema, esophageal cancer, bladder cancer, lung cancer, and the list goes on.

It's not glamorous, and there is nothing good about it. DO NOT START!!!

I used to be a smoker, I quit in my early 20s. I started smoking at 16. I'm 30 now and I can't stand the smell of the stuff. It's a nasty nasty nasty habit to start.

    be healthy, be smoke free.

  2. I have to adamantly agree with Sarah. I smoked from about 18-24, with a few several month breaks scattered throughout those years. I mainly started because working in a restaurant only the smokers got breaks.

Grossness Alert: if you enjoy smelling of stale smoke (especially between your cig holding fingers), having to pop mints or gum every 20 minutes, and coughing up chunks of black phlegm every time you brush your teeth, then smoking is alright, but who really enjoys all of that? Not to mention, it's expensive!

I eventually quit because I think I overdosed on cigs. The place I worked at made it possible to smoke almost ALL THE TIME and my body literally rejected it. I suddenly started to feel nauseous every tine I smoked, which was bothersome at the time, but I'm super thankful for it now.

That was over two years ago and though occasionally want a cigarette when I watch Mad Men, I know I wouldn't want it once I inhaled. If you haven't started yet, don't :)

  3. My not smoking has nothing to do with my gender but everything to due with health issues. The tabacco industry does a lot of shit to their cigarettes which includes putting in additives that just are not good for the body. Plus the smell isn't the greatest in my opinion. Cigars are more pure...that might be interesting for you? I love cigars and there are some wedding pictures on my fb page of me smoking them...they are pretty funny! They are heavier so its harder to smoke them constantly.
I think its great you are willing to make an informed decision instead of just jumping in...it is ultimately up to you but after losing someone really close to me from lung cancer because she smoked like a chimney, I argue against it. Do your research though and seek out expert opinions to really hear the facts.

Also, I tagged you in the handwriting meme! Head to my blog to grab the rules and such if you'd like to participate :)

  4. I was a smoker from 16-19, and I formed an allergy to it. Like Ashley mentioned, I started to get nauseous while smoking, my throat started to close up, and I felt awful, so I quit. It smells really bad, I can't even stand the smell of them anymore, I hate being around cigarette smoke.

When I smoked I smoked Camel wides also. The thing i liked about Camel's was that their filters were 100% cotton.

I had an uncle die from Lung cancer that spread to his stomach and brain. He had a very painful slow death.

It is your decision to make, but with all the possible medical side effects, I really recommend not smoking. My dad was a smoker for over 50 years and nothing he tried could ever help him quit. Plus cigarette's are expensive, and are only going to continue to get more expensive. Also, if you do plan on having children at some point, it's best to try to quit before you get pregnant because the baby goes through withdrawls worse then you do, so that's also something to keep in mind.

  5. What is the benefit to start smoking? It is very expensive and incredibly unhealthy. Once you start, it is so hard to quit. I had patients who could barely breathe in their 50s from COPD (lung disease caused by smoking), but they still continued to smoke because they couldn't quit. Then I have had patients that started smoking in their 20s and had whole lungs removed by their 30s because of lung cancer. It's expensive, smells bad, yellows your teeth, and is known to be one of the most dangerous things to your health. Really, what's the point?

If you want to smoke, like someone said above, do something like cigars every once in a while. They can be a fun social activity. Not the healthiest, but much better than smoking a pack a day!

  6. Since everyone else covered everything I would want you to hear I'll keep this simple.

There are absolutely NO benefits but thousands of consequences. Because of that I honestly thought this blog post was a joke but I figured I would give you my 2 cents anyway.

  7. If you haven't started smoking, you shouldn't start. Read above^^ haha.
I've been smoking since I was 15, but I've since toned it down to only smoking when I'm at a bar, club, or show. I smoke Djarum Blacks or pretty much any other menthol, preferrably Camels or Marlboros. I also LOVE hookah. My husband smokes too, daily. He prefers Camels but he isn't as picky about what type. He started when he was 14 or 15 I think.
I started smoking because well, simply put, I was offered a cigarette, thought I would try it and I liked it. haha. also, menthols are good for cramps, no idea why though but it works for me.
I haven't noticed any side effects though... not to say that there won't be some later. Also, I've quit smoking before and didn't have a problem with it so I plan on quitting again for good once I get pregnant.

  8. Who smokes?/Who doesn't? -- I no longer smoke.

What brand/type of cigarette do you smoke? I started on Marlboro Reds, then smoked Newports, then Newport lights and finally ended with Camel Lights.

How long have you smoked? I smoked on and off from the age of 15 through the age of 30.

Any side effects that you've noticed so far? I got winded a lot and my teeth are very yellow partially because of that. And there's also the smell that sticks to everything.

How did you get started smoking? A boyfriend.

What's your favorite brand/type of cigarette? If I was going to smoke it would be Camel Lights.

Have you tried quitting/how long did it take to quit? I quit a few times. Mostly cold turkey. I guess it took 15 years. Haha

Menthol or Regular? Except for a short time of smoking menthol, it was regulars.

    OR:

    Why don't you smoke? NA

Why did you quit? I quit to save money. And because my kids yelled at me all the time and told me I smelled bad.

  10. I smoke. I smoke Marlboro lights, I've smoked my first cigarette in fourth grade (Crazy I know) but didn't start smoking regularly until my Freshman year old highschool, and so that would be about 5 years ago. I've smoked New ports, Camel number 9 menthols, regular camel number 9's, Marlboro reds, and now Marlboro lights. I've smoked Marlboro lights the longest. I don't have any "side effects" that I know of that has to do with the smell, color, etc. I use perfume and gum on the reg. I am addicted to them. I get bad headaches and bitchiness when I don't smoke.

I have tried to quit before. Right before my grandfather died I was just about to stop. I bought a pack of cigarettes (menthol because now I can't stand menthol) disgusting cigarettes I knew I wouldn't want to smoke, and when I craved one I would smoke that, and since I didn't like the flavor I would just put it out and not want one anymore. When my grandfather died, I started again because of the stress.

My marine and I where going to stop together during this deployment but that was a joke to begin with. All the stress and crazy stuff that goes on during a deployment we quickly learned there was no way. We will try and quit again once he returns home sometime this summer.

I hope this anwsers some of your questions! :)

  11. I won't post any cons except that I was a smoker for 20+ years and quitting was SO ridiculously hard.

Thanks for stopping by and following my blog -- returning the love!
