Planned Parenthood Funding.

Something that has been near and dear to my heart recently, is the bill that the Senate and the House of Representatives are discussing based on funding for Planned Parenthood. For those of you that don't have a Planned Parenthood or know what it is, Planned Parenthood is a place teens, women, parents and even men can go if they are low income or even just need some free condoms. It is a place that teaches people about safe sex, healthy sex, and birth control. Women cafn go there to get treated for cervical cancer, std's, birth control, and many more things. Yes, they do perform abortions, but so does every other doctor's office/hospital. It is a safe haven for many girls who need to learn about safe sex or birth control in a more confidential setting. I was that girl.

My parents never taught me about sex. They taught me to never have sex before marriage, but that's all they told me. Being a teenage girl in high school, obviously all my friends we're having sex, and I had no idea what they were going through. My parents would have DIED if I had come to them asking to be put on birth control. But at the same time, I had a boyfriend who I loved and wanted to have sex with. I'm not stupid, I wasn't going to have unprotected sex, I knew that much! So, I went to Planned Parenthood, somewhere you can go if you don't have health insurance (or if you just didn't want your parents to find out, like I did!) They gave me free birth control for a year, free condoms, and free plan b just in case! They even set me up with a doctor's appointment to see which kind of birth control would be best for me and my lifestyle! All for free! If I didn't have a Planned Parenthood to go to, I definitely would have been at a higher risk of pregnancy, if not pregnant at a VERY young age (with VERY upset parents!)

That's just ONE story out of millions! If Planned Parenthood's funding gets cut, think of all the lives that would be affected. Not only would so many low-income individuals be out of birth control, but there would be no free std testings, no free condoms, no cervical cancer treatment. I know I've said this a lot, but Planned Parenthood is such a great place. Cutting the funding would just be hearth breaking for so many people.

  1. I love Planned Parenthood too! I still go there! I'm soo happy the Senate is doing this! I've also heard
PP is campaigning to make birth control free like no co pays with insurance or anything, and in California at least they're trying to make birth control accessible over the counter. yay!

  2. Yeah! When I went there, my birth control was 100% free. So was my Plan B.

  3. Some republican parties are even talking about SHUTTING DOWN Planned parenthood. Not sure if you know but they have been pushing to close it down for years and the budget cuts are the first step. Its sooooo stupid seeing as they help so many people.

  4. I did the same thing in HS. I got my first women's annual exam at PP and got started on the pill there, because my mom felt like taking me to the OB/GYN would be "condoning" the fact that I was having sex.
